He’s a global megastar famed for his role in The Fast and The Furious franchise and becoming the highest-paid actor in Hollywood.
Yet turns out Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, also has a heart of gold.
Despite his dazzling career, which began in professional wrestling before he became a WWE phenomenon and later an A-list actor, Dwayne nearly ended up with nothing.
Flirting dangerously close to the wrong side of the law, Dwayne was arrested multiple times for fighting, theft, and fraud before the age of 17.
Alongside this, he spent his teenage years apart from his parents. However, it was this separation that connected him with a lifelong friend who took him in as a homeless teen.
And now, all these years later, the 48-year-old has reconnected with his second father to thank him for all the good he did, and also surprise him with a brand-new truck.
Taking to Instagram, Dwayne – who has a net worth of $320million (£236m) – gushed about ‘Downtown Bruno’ and filmed the surprise gifting for his army of online followers.
The heart-warming clip sees the pair reflect on their relationship and how it all began when Dwayne was booted out of his Hawaii home as his mother could no longer afford the rent so he ended up in Nashville, Tennessee trying to fend for himself before their bromance blossomed.
Alongside the footage, Dwayne wrote: “Bruno. Love you, brother!
“My life (especially my teenage years) has been full of the wildest twists and turns – yet God and the universe had always found a way to put a few people in my path that would change the trajectory of the road I was going down.
“Meet one of my lifelong friends, Bruno Lauer – or I prefer to call him, ‘Downtown Bruno’.”
He continued: “I was told I was gonna live with a guy named Bruno, who at the time lived in a tiny room at a spot called the Alamo Plaza motel.
“Bruno could’ve (and should’ve) said, ‘Hell no, I’m not takin’ in some kid who I don’t know.’
“But he didn’t. He took this punk kid in and we became lifelong friends.”
While Dwayne eventually moved on, they were reunited nearly a decade later when Bruno took the struggling wrestler in for a second time as he had nowhere to live before his career took off.
At the time, Bruno gave Dwayne his last $40 bucks so the aspiring sportsman could put it towards getting himself a car. And, as they say, karma keeps receipts…
This time around, Dwayne was doing the buying and the truck was a little more than $40 as he presented Bruno with a Ford F-150 which comes with a price tag of $30,000 (£22k).
The Rock added: “Your kindness and heart helped change my life’s trajectory. And when you’re ready to retire from ‘the business’ you just say the word. I got you covered.
“Enjoy your new ride and give Walls, Mississippi my love and gratitude.”
