And now we can, in the simplest, sweetest way that won’t cost an arm and a leg.
Instead of splashing the cash on chocs or flowers, Send To Give are encouraging people to mail personalised postcards from the comfort of your own smartphone.
Not only is the process easily accessible and certain to brighten someone’s day, the organisation gives all profits from purchases to their partner charities in the Philippines.
By pinging a postcard across the world with a message to a loved one, Send To Give hope to create a “ripple of goodness” throughout the globe.
Speaking exclusively to Uspire, founder Jo Bautista revealed how she came up with the initiative and why it all began at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jo said: “I was in lockdown in Germany while I watched my home country, the Philippines, struggle its hardest time. Daily news, photos, and social media posts about so much hardship compelled me to take action.
“At first, I thought of selling my paintings and sending the money back home, but quarantine regulations restricted me from going out and participating in events.
“As it turned out, this limitation paved the way for the unique concept that Send To Give is based on today.”
Instead, Jo had the idea to create an array of postcards, all with her own designs, to show the power of art to depict the experiences in which we live through today.
She now strives to show how we can cross cultures and language barriers, by connecting in a simple, genuine, and meaningful way.
So, how does it work?
Send To Give is a digital platform that invites users to log-on and choose their postcard design of choice, before typing up their personalised message and inputting the shipping details of their recipient before completing the payment via debit or credit card.
Next, it’s just a case of hitting ‘send’, then Jo’s crew do the hard work for you.
All profits from each purchase go to supporting marginalised groups most affected by the pandemic; including a 12-year-old boy who is hoping to become a civil engineer.
Chatting about her ongoing goals, Jo said: “My aim is to turn good intentions into action and to help those in need.
“This year has been an extremely challenging time and while there may be a lot of hardship, I believe there is also a lot of desire to help.
“Send To Give is my way of enabling people to make a difference in the lives of others through small acts of kindness.”
In just five months, the company have sent messages of hope and love across the globe to 14 different countries and in seven different languages.
Jo added: “I want to make people feel hopeful and inspired.
“I want to send the message that there is no challenge too great for humanity when we work together and put our passions to good use. I want to highlight that no act of kindness is too small, and that making a positive difference is a power we all have.”
And Jo’s only just getting started.
The inspiring humanitarian is now creating a female-inspired postcard collection, called Support Your Sisters, to support girls in Kenya who miss out on up to six months of school education each year because of a lack of sanitary products.
Jo concluded: “For each postcard sold, all profits will go to providing sanitary napkins and skills training to help these young girls have a better tomorrow.”
