World’s oldest couple, aged 104 and 110, reveal secret to successful relationship

Husband and wife duo have smashed the Guinness World Record for the oldest married couple.

They say age ain’t nothing but a number, and that’s certainly the case for one couple.

For this husband and wife duo have smashed the world record for the oldest married couple – with both of them long passing their 100th birthday.

That’s right, nearly eight decades ago Waldramina Maclovia Quinteros was a blushing bride as she said ‘I do’ to Julio Cesar Mora Tapia.

And a casual 79 years after becoming Mr and Mrs, the Ecuadorian natives have earned their new Guinness World Record accolade.

Just think, that’s 28,835 days of waking up to the same face on the opposite pillow each morning.

Julio, now 110 (and born before the RMS Titanic sunk in 1912), swept Waldramina, 104, off her feet as she went to visit her sister during a school holiday and later bumped into her hubby-to-be who lived in the same apartment.

He says he became besotted with her beauty, topics of conversation, and big heart; while she fell for the poet’s young spirit.

The rest, as they say, is history with the lovebirds walking down the aisle seven years later on February 7, 1941 at the oldest church in Quito, the capital of Ecuador.

Chatting about the secret to a successful relationship, they credit their Romeo + Juliet passion to “love, maturity and mutual respect”.

Speaking to the Guinness World Records, Julio and Waldramina added: “The love and maturity that we had as a couple from the beginning of the marriage allowed us to know each other and grow emotionally to define our future.

“It was not easy because our relatives did not have a good relationship, but with time and patience we were able to unite them and we became an example and the best reference for the younger generations.”

They continued: “It is true that at this time it is difficult because we are overwhelmed by the pandemic that affects the world and we still do not have a solution.

“However, the first step for us to follow the rules with respect and love the life.”

Taking into account they have enough family members to create a couple of football teams – notably five children, 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren – we better heed their advice that love conquers all.
