With public gyms, pools and many parks closed over lockdown, we have had to explore new ways to exercise.
And whether you go at Joe Wicks’ pace or a little more like Captain Tom Moore, everyone is finding their groove as they workout.
To add to the mix, a new challenge has been launched to get families moving.
Shoe brand ASICS and Weetabix Protein have teamed up for their nationwide running initiative – the virtual 10k Youth Challenge.
Across the UK, thousands of kids aged 16 or under are getting involved by running their own 10-kilometre race across a 10-week period, whether in their garden or on their stairs.
Of course, it wouldn’t be a challenge without a prize at the end and there are T-shirts and medals to be nabbed for the winners.
Alongside the campaign, free weekly virtual family fitness sessions are also being rolled out, led by top personal trainer Faisal Abdalla aka Mr PMA [Positive Mental Attitude].
The classes – which take place every Wednesday at 4pm between May 27 and July 29 –
will include a new challenge each week, so expect anything from skipping to bear crawls.
Throughout the online sessions, elite athletes and special guests will also be sharing their motivational tips; including 5000m runner and double Olympian Eilish McColgan, tennis player Harriet Dart, ASICS FrontRunner and mum-of-four Hayley Woodnough, and Dewi Griffiths who won the 10k challenge last year.
Not only will the resources galvanise the nation, they will also help FareShare as every runner who signs up will see Weetabix Protein donate one of their ‘On The Go’ breakfast drinks to the food redistribution charity.
During the coronavirus pandemic, FareShare have responded by distributing food and drinks to vulnerable people, delivering meals to those facing financial hardship, the elderly, and those with serious illnesses who are self-isolating.
If you’re ready to raise your heartbeat and give yourself a little mind-body TLC, then be sure to tune in every Wednesday for the live-stream on Instagram account @faisalpmafitness. Otherwise, catch them later when available on @virginsport.
So, what are you waiting for…
