In our new normal where we can’t celebrate with friends and family like we used to, it seems focusing on the mundane things can actually bring more joy than we realised.
It is believed that everyday ‘little wins’ hold the key to happiness, sparking joy that leave us just as content as slamming tequilas on a Friday night.
The most popular of these ‘little wins’ is finding money in an old coat pocket, followed by receiving an unexpected gift in the post, and getting a compliment from a stranger.
The new research, carried out by Barefoot Wine, shows that Brits enjoy an average of three wins a week, with these moments helping us forget the negative aspects of life.
Speaking about the study, a spokesman for Barefoot said: “Now more than ever it’s important that we appreciate the little moments in life and this research shows that celebrating the ‘little wins’ can really make a difference – whether that’s starting the day with sun, having a weekend lie-in or winding down and having a glass of wine.
“Barefoot Wine has always been about celebrating positivity and raising a glass to the everyday little wins, which is why we’re encouraging people all around the country to raise a ‘virtual cheers’ every Saturday to celebrate the little things with family and friends.”
Other wins on the Top 50 include waking up to sunshine, getting into fresh bedding at the end of the day, and traffic lights turning green as you approach.
There’s also watching the sunset, completing a to-do list, and having an extra hour in bed.
Our personal favourite, however, has to be getting a free item with the takeaway.
It appears little wins can equal big rewards too, with each one bringing a happy spell of 74 minutes each time – that’s almost four hours of happiness a week.
