We may have forgotten what it feels like to eat out at our favourite restaurants, but luckily one of the UK’s most popular eateries has come to the rescue.
wagamama launched their ‘Wok From Home’ cooking tutorials last month, and they’ve been a roaring success as katsu curry lovers everywhere recreate the delicious dish in their own kitchens.
Headed up by the brand’s executive chef, Steve Mangleshot, the cook-a-long episodes drop every Wednesday at 6pm – the perfect time to cook up a mid-week feast at home.
Speaking about why wagamama decided to launch the Wok From Home series, Steve told Uspire: “Since the lockdown and tightened restrictions to combat Covid-19, the nation looked to home cooking family meals, and at Wagamama we were still determined to create a sense of community through our food during these unprecedented times.
“So we launched ‘Wok From Home’, which is a simple home cookery guide for our wagamama classic dishes – meaning fans of the restaurant could still enjoy their favourites from the menu.”
As well as katsu curry, Steve has also let wagamama fans in on the secret to recreating other popular dishes such as bang bang cauliflower and chilli chicken ramen. We’re getting hungry just writing about it!
The videos are filmed by Steve’s wife, Claire, and he also has some help from his “little sous-chefs” AKA his sons, Alfie, 17, and 14-year-old Monty.
Speaking about the response they’ve had so far, Steve explained: “Honestly, we’ve been floored by the positive response! The videos themselves have received over 1.5 million views and feedback on the videos has been fantastic – we’ve received an overwhelming amount of support.
“My favourite part is seeing all of the finished creations being shared across social and the genuine joy people are getting from cooking along at home,” the 49-year-old added.
So what are you waiting for?! If you fancy firing up your wok and giving it a go, head to wagamama’s social pages or check out their YouTube page – and get cooking!
